2nd July 2013
On a not-so-summery summer’s morning, twenty-one JCG girls set off on a surprisingly on time ferry to our rival island Guernsey, for our annual inter-school swimming competition. We were competiting in three competitions:
Tuesday 2nd July a.m. – The Mignot and Luscombe held at Guernsey Grammar School
Tuesday 2nd July p.m – Annual Swimming Fixtures – JCG v GGS
Wednesday 3rd July p.m – The Lady Capper Cup – swimming fixture between JCG and Guernsey Ladies College
Arriving just in time to get changed in the lovely boys changing rooms at Guernsey Grammar School, we limbered up for a tough morning ahead. Following many nail-bitingly close races with some cheering and chanting from JCG, the juniors were placed second, just behind Guernsey Ladies College, with a score of 33 against their 34, unfortunately losing the Mignot cup. The seniors were also placed second, just behind Guernsey Ladies College. “Not to worry,” we said, “it was just our warm up”, as we had our second competition, our cup matches against Guernsey Grammar, to win in the afternoon.
After fighting for first place until the very last relay, both junior and senior teams succeeded to come out on top, naming JCG winners for the both the senior and junior cups.
Following a much-needed rest with some super food, we woke up the next day feeling refreshed and re-energised for yet another gala ahead. We were ready for our races after a swift warm up and some practice dives, prepared for a fight from Guernsey Ladies. Despite swimming our best and finishing on a high by winning the final relay, we came second to Guernsey Ladies College who managed to steal the Lady Capper cup from our reaching hold.
All in all we had a fabulous trip, and experienced great competition and camaraderie from Guernsey. Well-done JCG!
