16th January 2012

On Monday 9th January, 2012, all Year 11 French students participated in our annual Language Speakers Event. The morning started off with a short multi-lingual quiz and then the girls listened to a range of invited guests.

This year we were extremely lucky that the following speakers were able to participate and speak to the students:

Lauren Taylor, past pupil and legal assistant at Bedell Cristin
Peter Snape, husband of our French assistante Michèle and Project Manager at Jersey Electricity
Advocate Nina Benest, past pupil, Advocate of the Royal Court and partner at Benest Syvret
Marianne Bougourd, a Danish national who works at the law firm Carey Olsen
John Harris, Director General of the Jersey Financial Services Commission
Hannah Curtis, past pupil, currently studying at Italian and French at Durham University.

All of the speakers explained to our students why they had chosen to study languages, how these choices had shaped their careers and in some cases their personal lives. It was an informative and interesting session and the feedback from the students was very positive. Many of the students loved Peter Snape’s description of struggling to make himself understood with his new wife’s family in France and a lot of girls felt that listening to Hannah Curtis was very relevant to them.Language Speakers Event
