Summer Term Fixtures and Events
Rounders fixtures and athletics events will take place in the Summer Term. Further information will be provided in due course.
The ethos of the department is to ensure that all students have a positive and broad experience across the six activity areas:
• Swimming & Adventurous Activities
• Athletics, Fitness & Health
From their experiences we would hope that all students discover an activity they can continue with competently and confidently in their own free time, with the activity becoming a central part of their lives.
Through Physical Education, students develop a wide range of skills and the ability to use tactics, strategies and compositional ideas to perform successfully. When they are performing, they think about what they are doing, analyze the situation and make decisions. They also reflect on their own and others’ performances and find ways to improve them.
Physical Education also helps pupils develop personally and socially. During lessons at JCG, students work as individuals, in groups and in teams, developing concepts of fairness and of personal and social responsibility. They take on different roles and responsibilities, including leadership, coaching and officiating. Through the range of experiences and activities that Physical Education at JCG offers, students learn how to be effective in competitive, creative and challenging situations. We have annual fixtures in Hockey, Netball, Swimming and Tennis against Guernsey Grammar School and Guernsey Ladies’. We also offer opportunities for the 1st VII Netball squad to the South West Regional Tournament.
Students are also given the opportunity to improve their performance by involvement in extracurricular activities. JCG competes against other schools locally and nationally in rounders, hockey, netball, cricket, football and athletics. Through these leagues students can access Island trials and teams. We also try to direct students into community clubs so they can develop long term participation and hopefully give something back to the community through sport.
The social clubs provide a fun and friendly atmosphere where students can improve their knowledge and performance in a relaxed manner but also help improve their sense of achievement and self confidence. The expectations of the JCG PE Department are high. Irrespective of ability, it is expected that students try to do their best. Staff will help to encourage students to set themselves challenging but realistic goals, to help them to improve and be proud of their achievements.
