Sports Day

Leah and Mimi, Sports Captain

This year’s Sports Day was one to remember, bringing together students from every year group for a day of competition, teamwork, and plenty of House Spirit. With sunshine and warm weather on our side, it couldn’t have been a better day to get everyone together.

The day started with a whole-school warm-up to Waka Waka, led by us, and it was great to see so many students (and even staff!) joining in. It got everyone moving, lifted the energy and was the perfect way to kick off the day. Throughout the day there were brilliant performances across both the track and field events, with students giving their all and cheering each other on. We also had the chance to commentate on some events, helping celebrate the achievements and keep the excitement going throughout the day.

One of the standout moments of the day came when Bobbi broke the 23-year-old javelin record, an incredible achievement, and a well-deserved place in the school’s sporting history.

There were also some outstanding individual performances. Layla Rowlands was crowned the Senior Girls’ Champion after winning the 100m, 80m hurdles and shot put. In the junior category, Azmeera Macdonald and Bobbi Billington shared the title of Junior Champions following a fantastic day of competition. Azmeera won the long jump, 100m and 200m, while Bobbi topped the podium in the javelin, 1500m and hurdles.

One of the biggest highlights of the day came with the final results. Congratulations to Curie Fry, who were crowned Sports Day Champions after ending Cavell’s five-year winning streak. a huge well done also goes to Inglis, who were awarded the Spirit Cup for their outstanding enthusiasm, encouragement, and house pride throughout the day.

Of course, Sports Day wouldn’t be complete without refreshments! The Curie Fry BBQ was a big hit, while the Nightingale lemonade and ice lolly stand kept everyone cool in the sunshine. Thank you to everyone who helped make them such a success. A huge thank you goes to all the staff, PE department and students who helped make the day possible. Sports day 2026 was full of great performances, teamwork and unforgettable memories - we’re already looking forward to next year!
