We started Young Enterprise just as an opportunity to learn new skills and try something we haven’t before, never thinking that we could get to the level that we did.
We started off by selling lots of different things and then realised this wasn’t a good strategy because it made our stall look messy and didn’t go with a theme. We decided to focus on the idea of sea glass necklaces and cards, which was very successful. The stall looked classy and appealing for customers and we managed to make much more money than we had before. We then introduced tiered pricing to reflect the rarity and demand of the different styles of necklaces, small, large and rare, rare being the most unique or beautiful pieces that were harder to find. This worked amazingly for us and we continued to sell successfully making a total of £1,228.50.
We then won the Jersey competition and progressed to the South East regional finals where we were against Sixth Formers and a managed to come best company runner up.
We found this experience really exciting because it was something we had never done before, so we were learning as we went. We all had different roles to play helping us to bond as a team and create stronger friendships as a group. We also grew in confidence because we had to speak in front of large audiences, helping to develop our oracy skills.
Overall, we found this experience amazing, we had so many laughs along the way and learnt so many skills that we will be able to use in the future and every one of us would do it again if we had the chance.
