Digital Curriculum

Skills for the modern world

There are three main strands of the Computing curriculum:

  • Computing Science

  • Information Technology skills

  • Digital Literacy

The Computing curriculum is taught discreetly where necessary and cross-curricular links are made wherever possible.

With access to a wide range of PCs, laptops and a 1:1 iPad provision in KS2, technology is seamlessly integrated across the curriculum. This ensures that digital tools are always available to enhance learning, rather than being limited to specific lessons.

We actively encourage children to take ownership of their learning by choosing when and how to use technology to support their work—fostering independence, creativity and critical thinking in a digitally rich environment.

Computing Science

We introduce children of all ages to the exciting world of computing, helping them understand how computers and networks work in a fun and accessible way. From their very first steps, every child is given the opportunity to explore programming—starting with simple floor robots in Early Years and progressing to designing their own on-screen games and programs by Year 6.

Using our extensive range of technology, including iPads, robotics, and innovative software such as BeeBots, ScratchJr and Micro:Bits, pupils develop creativity, problem-solving skills and digital confidence as they grow.

Information Technology Skills

This strand equips children with the skills to present their ideas confidently through a range of digital media. From the very beginning, pupils develop essential computing skills—starting with simple tasks such as turning devices on and off in Reception, and progressing to more advanced techniques like organising files, saving work in the Cloud, using keyboard shortcuts, and developing efficient typing skills.

Using a variety of industry-relevant tools, including the Microsoft suite, Book Creator, iMovie, PicCollage and Adobe Express for Education, children learn to create, edit and share high-quality digital content while building confidence and independence.

Digital Literacy

This strand focuses on the safe and responsible use of technology, helping children understand both its benefits and its risks. Pupils learn how digital tools can enhance collaboration and communication, while also developing the awareness needed to navigate online spaces confidently.

Our comprehensive e-safety curriculum ensures that every child feels secure when using computers and the internet. They are taught how to recognise and respond to anything inappropriate or uncomfortable, giving them the confidence to make safe choices online.

Key areas of learning include safe online research, understanding and managing cyberbullying, protecting personal information and privacy, and exploring the opportunities and challenges of ever-evolving technologies such as artificial intelligence.
