At College, the work of each academic Faculty is supported by a pair of Senior Prefects, who serve as part of the Senior Student Leadership Team. The Faculty Prefects for 2025-2026 were invited to celebrate the learning that takes place within their faculty through organising a contribution to a JCG Journal.
The Prefects were given free rein to decide what form of article would best reflect the scholarship, creativity and discipline of one or more of the subjects included in their faculty. The diversity of responses captures something of the intellectual vitality of the College’s academic culture. From English, we have a prize-winning poem accompanied by an analysis that helps us to appreciate its technical virtuosity. From Humanities, we have an essay (extending beyond the curriculum) on the political significance of NATO. For Languages, we have an essay on an A level French literary set text: the essay itself is written in French, and for those of us less linguistically talented, a translation is provided. From Mathematics, we have a step-by-step guide to solving a fiending mathematical challenge (alongside reflections on the importance of collaboration for the discipline). For Science, we have a celebration of the creativity, learning and sheer joy that went into our very own Chemistry Bake Off. For Creativity, we have some gorgeous images of House Art submissions, as well as one prize-winning artist’s reflection on her work.
Thank you to all the Senior Prefects, as well as the other students whose contributions they organised, who collaborated to bring together this celebration of learning at JCG.
