Meet our Governors

Jersey College governors are ambassadors for the school and what we do. They support and monitor the governance of the College.

Invited Governors

Farah Ballands

Chair

Farah chairs the boards of two regulated businesses, Equiom and HTCI, an HSBC entity. A commercial/trusts lawyer by background, Farah was a partner with offshore law firm Appleby for 12 years before leading the management buyout of its fiduciary businesses to private equity firm, Bridgepoint, in 2015. She was CEO of that business and subsequently of Ocorian until her retirement from executive roles in 2021. Farah was educated at JCG as was her daughter. Farah joined the Board in 2023, taking up the position as Chair in 2024.  She also sits on the Standards and Finance & Property Sub-Committees.

James Willmott

Vice Chair

With 15 years’ experience in corporate law, James is a partner in the Jersey office of offshore law firm, Carey Olsen. Following stints in London, Bratislava, Singapore and Birmingham, he advises clients on large, high-profile international transactions and local matters. James joined the Board in 2019 and sits on the Governance, Wellbeing and Finance & Property Sub-Committees and his younger daughter attends JCG.

Chris Jenkins

Invited Governor

Chris is Global Head of Market Development at Jersey Finance and has worked in the fintech industry for over 30 years including 12 years in Asia. He moved to Jersey from Hong Kong with his family in 2015, and his three daughters have all attended JCG. Chris joined the board in 2020..

Alison Morgan

Invited Governor

A corporate and telecoms/technology lawyer by background, Alison has a first in modern languages from UCL where she also gained a masters in literature. She worked as a corporate lawyer in London and Brussels for international law firms Herbert Smith and Bird&Bird, before moving to an in-house legal role at a telecoms business which floated on the London Stock Exchange. Alison subsequently founded the knowledge management department at the law firm Ogier in Jersey and is currently working as CEO for the JCG Foundation.  She has three children, two of whom are at JCG. Alison joined the board in 2020.

Kirstie Greig

Invited Governor

Kirstie is an Emergency Medicine Doctor at the General Hospital. She joined the Governing Body in 2018 and sits on the Wellbeing and Admissions & Marketing Sub-Committees.

Andrew Jarvis

Invited Governor

Andy is a Technology Leader with 20 years’ experience spanning offshore Financial Services and Telecoms.  He specialises in Strategic advisory, Digital Transformation and Merger & Acquisitions.  He is passionate about Mental Health and is a Mental Health first aider.  He has 2 daughters at JCG and joined the Board of Governors in 2021. Andy chairs the Admissions & Marketing Sub-Committee and also sits on the Wellbeing Sub-Committee.

Susie Pinel

Invited Governor

Prior to entering politics, Susie worked in art restoration for the British royal family for eleven years, repairing miniature portraits which were damaged in the Windsor Castle fire, for which she received a Royal Warrant.  Susie has served the island in various roles within the States Assembly, as Deputy for St Clement , the Minister for Social Security, and the Minister for Treasury and Resources between 2011 and 2022.  Susie joined the Board of Governors in February 2024 and sits on the Finance and Property Sub-Committee.

Mark Law

Invited Governor

Mark has over 20 years experience in Finance and Management having worked in UK, Mauritius, Japan and Hong Kong. Following a career in banking culminating as Head of Asia Transaction Banking for a global bank, he joined a FTSE250 listed financial services company as Chief Commercial Officer before becoming CEO of an Asian Media, Education and Technology firm before returning to Jersey with his family in 2022 enrolling his youngest daughter at JCG. Mark is a listening volunteer at Samaritans.  He joined the Board in 2024 and sits on the Finance & Property Sub-Committee.

Lydia Falle

Invited Governor

Lydia is a Registered Psychotherapist working in private practice, supporting individuals across a full range of mental health difficulties. Alongside her clinical work, she runs a specialist sleep clinic and is co-founder of Mind Matters, which works with organisations to develop and implement preventative mental health frameworks.  Lydia sits on the Wellbeing and Standards Sub-Committees.

Elizabeth Boleat

JCP Parent Governor

Educated at JCG, Elizabeth went on to gain a PhD in chemical physics from UCL and then a medical degree at Guy’s, King’s & St Thomas’ school of medicine. She trained as an anaesthetic doctor and worked in London for a number of years. She has now returned to Jersey and is currently on a career break raising her five children, four of whom are at JCP.  Elizabeth joined the Board in 2022 and currently sits on the Admissions & Marketing Sub-Committee.

Louise Godley

JCG Parent Governor

Louise is a banking and finance lawyer and has previously worked in law firms and banks in in law firms and banks in Jersey, London, Vienna and Luxembourg. Louise has two daughters who both attend JCG and she joined the Board of Governors in 2024. She currently chairs the Governance Sub-Committee and also sits of the Standards Sub-Committee'.

Simon Lewis

Whole College Staff Governor

Educated at King's School, Worcester and then Trinity College, Cambridge, Simon joined JCG in 1998 and has been Head of the Mathematics, Computing and Economics Faculty at JCG since 2016. From 2012-2014 Simon was given a planned two-year sabbatical to teach as Head of Maths at Dulwich College, Suzhou, and was a member of Jersey's Statistics Users Group from 2019-2022. Simon has a daughter at JCG and has a particular interest in increasing opportunities for students to extend their learning outside the classroom. Simon joined the Board in 2024 and sits on the Finance & Property and the Wellbeing Sub-Committees.

Board Apprentice Opportunity 

The Alumni Board Apprenticeship scheme is an extremely fulfilling and insightful opportunity. You will have the chance to engage in discussions with fellow Governors about the most pressing issues facing JCP & JCG, celebrate the excellent achievements of students, and work towards building a sustainable future for an excellent all-girls education in Jersey.

There are various sub-committees that comprise the Board of Governors, which are set up to discuss the different functions of the Governing Body. These include:

Expectations

You are expected to attend all Board and subcommittee meetings as far as possible.

  1. Board meetings are held in person once per term.

  2. Subcommittee meetings are held once per term, per subcommittee, usually lasting an hour and conducted remotely.

Papers for each meeting are shared in advance, and it is expected that you will have read the materials shared ahead of the discussions. Ensure that you understand the high-level objectives and consider what questions may need to be raised around:

  • Performance against strategic objectives

  • Risk

  • Governance

  • Budget & financial autonomy

  • Student welfare

  • Political landscape

Minutes are circulated after each meeting.

The agendas for termly board meetings are set to table discussions around the most pressing priorities for JCG and JCP. Some recent examples include:

  • Benefit of an all-girls education

  • Retiring Head Girl team learnings & experiences

  • Student Personal Development Strategy

  • Skillset of the Governing Body & Recruitment of new Governors

Board Apprentice

From Alumni to Apprentice – empowering tomorrows female leaders 

The Board Apprenticeship Scheme is designed to support the cultivation of the next generation of female leaders and is open to JCG alumni who have left the school in the last 10 years and are based in Jersey. We are looking for aspiring future female leaders who want to gain first-hand boardroom experience and contribute a fresh perspective to our board discussions. 

About the Scheme: This apprenticeship offers a unique opportunity to gain real-world boardroom exposure over the course of a school year. As an apprentice, you will:

  1. Participate in all board meetings, certain committee meetings, and other relevant groups.

  2. Gain insights into boardroom dynamics, decision-making processes, and strategic planning.

  3. Be assigned a mentor who will guide you through board papers and support you with any questions. 

Commitments: The selected apprentice must be able to commit to attending board and committee meetings which each take place once a term and papers will be shared in advance. This may involve coordination with your employer to ensure their support. Confidentiality is paramount, and the apprentice must not share any information outside the boardroom. 

Application Process: To apply for the Board Apprenticeship Scheme, please follow these steps: 

  1. Submit Your Application: Send your CV and a cover letter detailing your interest in the scheme and how you meet the eligibility criteria to h.delves@jcg.sch.je. Please submit your application by the end of May.

  2. Interview: Shortlisted candidates will be invited for an interview with members of the Board of Governors.

  3. Selection: The successful candidate will be notified and provided with further details about the apprenticeship, including the start date, sub-committee membership and mentor assignment.

College Governor

Jersey College for Girls & Jersey College Preparatory School

The College is keen to recruit a Governor, with financial acumen, to complement its existing cohort of Governors.  The successful applicant will be a Chartered Accountant with senior experience in the finance sector to help guide our strategy and practice. The College values diversity and welcomes applications from all sections of the community.

The term of office is for a minimum of three years, renewable by mutual agreement.  This is an honorary position and is unpaid.

As well as attending the three full Governors’ meetings held during an academic year, the applicant will sit on the Governing Body’s Finance and Property Sub-Committee, which also meets three times an academic year.

In return for your time and commitment, you will gain experience of working on a board with other committed volunteers, the opportunity to help our devoted leadership team achieve the vision they are working towards, and see tangible outcomes in the form of a happy, thriving and growing College for our students.
