Junk Kouture

Mrs Padidar, Head of Textiles

Cece, Darcie and Hana achieved outstanding success in the Junk Kouture World Finals with a striking design inspired by urban cityscapes..

Their piece, “Wired City” explored the environmental impact of urbanisation, particularly city skylines, using recycled materials including bicycle inner tubes, wire, cardboard and plastic bags. The garment was constructed through weaving techniques and sculptural wire structures to create a bold, architectural silhouette.

Reflecting on their experience at the World Finals in Dublin, the students described it as “an incredible experience to be amongst other creative students.” They also enjoyed the opportunity to sightsee around the city and showcase their work on a global stage, adding that “having our design presented at such a professional level was the most exciting part—it was an excellent experience.”

Cece represented the team on the runway, performing with confidence and elegance.

This was an exceptional achievement. The students demonstrated creativity, resilience and a sophisticated understanding of sustainable design. Presenting their work on a global platform is a truly valuable experience, and I am incredibly proud of them.
