Enriching the Curriculum

At JCP, we believe that learning extends beyond the classroom. Enrichment opportunities are carefully planned to complement and enhance the taught curriculum, providing pupils with meaningful experiences that deepen knowledge, develop skills and broaden horizons. Through educational visits, residential experiences, outdoor learning, leadership opportunities, performances, competitions and extracurricular activities, pupils develop the cultural capital, confidence, resilience and independence needed to succeed in school and beyond.

All year groups participate in a rich programme of educational visits that utilise the unique opportunities available within Jersey and beyond. These experiences provide first-hand learning opportunities that bring the curriculum to life and deepen pupils’ understanding of local history, geography, culture and the wider world. Residential experiences progressively develop independence, teamwork, leadership and personal responsibility, with pupils participating in age-appropriate residential visits throughout Key Stage 2.

Forest School and Outdoor Learning

Outdoor learning forms an integral part of the JCP curriculum. Through regular Forest School and outdoor learning opportunities, pupils are encouraged to explore, question, investigate and take managed risks in a supportive environment. These experiences foster curiosity, resilience, confidence and problem-solving skills, whilst promoting wellbeing and a deeper understanding of the natural world. Pupils develop positive relationships with themselves, others and their environment, supporting both personal development and academic learning.

Environmental Education and Sustainability

Environmental awareness and sustainability are embedded throughout the curriculum. As a long-standing Green Flag accredited Eco School, pupils are encouraged to develop an understanding of their responsibility towards the environment and their role as active global citizens. Through the work of the Eco Committee and curriculum-based learning, pupils engage with real-world environmental issues and contribute positively to sustainable practices within the school and wider community.

Cultural Capital

We are committed to ensuring that all pupils develop the knowledge, experiences and understanding needed to participate fully in society and succeed in later life. Through educational visits, visitors, performance opportunities, leadership roles, charitable initiatives, sporting competitions and experiences rooted in Jersey's heritage and culture, pupils develop a broad understanding of the world beyond their immediate experiences and gain the cultural capital needed to flourish in modern society.

Music and Performance

Music is highly valued as an important aspect of pupils’ creative, cultural and personal development. All pupils benefit from specialist music teaching and have opportunities to develop their musical talents through instrumental tuition, choir participation and performance opportunities. Regular concerts, competitions and community events enable pupils to build confidence, develop teamwork and demonstrate creativity whilst contributing positively to the wider life of the school.

Sport and Physical Development

Sport plays a significant role in promoting physical wellbeing, teamwork, resilience and personal achievement. Through high-quality PE provision, specialist teaching, competitive fixtures and a wide variety of sporting opportunities, pupils develop fundamental movement skills, a positive attitude towards healthy lifestyles and an appreciation of the values of teamwork, determination and fair play. Opportunities are provided for pupils of all abilities to participate, compete and achieve success.

Clubs and Leadership Opportunities

A wide-ranging extracurricular programme provides opportunities for pupils to pursue personal interests, develop new skills and strengthen existing talents. Clubs, leadership roles, committees and pupil-led initiatives support the development of independence, responsibility, communication and collaboration. These opportunities ensure that pupils are active participants in school life and contribute positively to the wider school community.
