Promoting physical and mental well-being

Purpose

The Year 7 outdoor education programme aims to foster personal growth, teamwork, and environmental awareness. Through engaging in a wide variety of outdoor activities, students develop essential life skills such as problem solving, leadership, and cooperation. Outdoor experiences promote physical and mental well-being while fostering a sense of responsibility to the environment. By stepping outside their comfort zones, students gain confidence and resilience, empowering them to achieve their future aspirations.

Content

The outdoor education programme aims to get students outside to develop crucial life skills while supporting their academic performance.

Throughout the year students will participate in various outdoor activities which all develop their teamwork, problem solving skills but also increase their awareness of environmental and social issues. The general themes covered include: Teamwork challenges, outdoor art, ecosystems and biodiversity, outdoor safety and first aid, sustainable living, mindfulness, and bushcraft.

In addition, students will participate in various off-site adventure days, where they can participate in many different activities such as kayaking, coasteering and yoga. The adventure days provide a fantastic opportunity for Year 7 students to develop their confidence, friendships, resilience and love for the outdoors.
