JCG Youth Theatre Productions

The JCG Youth Theatre produces plays as well as musicals.

Our last performance of a play was the highly technical Blood Brothers by Willy Russell (December 2024).

Prior to this we performed the very creative puppet play The Terrible Infants by Oliver Lansley. Breadth and diversity is the aim when selecting plays and so we have staged a wide range of pieces, including Beasts and Beauties by Carol Ann Duffy and Tim Supple, an adaptation of Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol by Neil Bartlett, Daisy Pulls it Off by Denise Deegan, Grimm Tales by Carol Ann Duffy and Tim Supple, The Good Person of Szechwan by Bertolt Brecht and Macbeth by William Shakespeare.

We have also entered national festivals and competitions e.g. in 2015 we performed The Accordion Shop by Cush Jumbo for National Theatre Connections and staged the play at the Bristol Old Vic as well as our home venue.

We have also entered the Shakespeare Schools’ Festival with versions of Macbeth and A Midsummer Night’s Dream.

Our next production: Barbed Wires and Teddy Bears

This year, we will be commemorating the 80th anniversary of the Jersey Liberation by staging Barbed Wire and Teddy Bears by Karen Forbes, a local writer and ex Head of English at JCG.

The play was written from the collected stories in Occupation Memories by Therese Tabb. Over a number of months, Therese, who is also a child of the Occupation, met with Jersey residents who had grown up under the eyes of the Nazi troops.

Out of this collection of memories, the characters formed and the aim of the JCG Youth Theatre in this 80th year of Liberation is to make the audience reflect. Living history is all around us...but won't be forever.

The stories in Barbed Wire and Teddy Bears are all true, and reflect on the a time that, for the children, was both scary and exciting in equal measure. Children will always be children, and in this play, you will hear stories of derring-do, bravery and simply growing up.
