Supporting young people

Purpose

The purpose of the PSHE curriculum at JCG is to ensure all students receive a provision that supports young people at every stage of their development at school and beyond. The PSHE provision is high profile at JCG and is one that we are proud of. Our provision is reflective of a collaborative approach with students, parents, staff, wider agencies, and organisations, adjusting and adapting to meet the changing needs of our students, remaining updated on local and international trends, advice, training, and supports.

An effective PSHE provision ensures all students understand their options surrounding their healthcare, their personal safety, careers and further education pathways post GCSE and A Levels, as well as fostering healthy relationships with themselves, family, and friends. Students also are provided with factual and supportive information on consent, STIs, and sex education as required by law.  PSHE lessons are a safe space for these topics to be discussed and where students are supported as they grow through adolescence and make choices for their futures.

Content

Students in Year 8 enjoy a PSHE provision catered to their growing needs and experiences. This includes topics on Health and Wellbeing, Careers, Politics and Finance, Relationships and Sex Education, Diversity and Inclusion and First Aid Skills.

Students have the opportunity to hear from visiting agencies and speakers both locally and nationally. Students will have the opportunity to take part in Workshop and Event days including (BASCs) Building A Safer Community sessions. Students will also take part in Female Leadership modules helping to grow their confidence and hone their leadership skills.
