Summer Camps
This Summer, Creative Minds has planned seven weeks of fun specially designed for children to learn new skills, develop their knowledge and have fun in a safe environment. Each week has a different theme and specialist teachers will be joining us to lead engaging and educative activities.
Week 1: Monday 20th to 24th July
Wave Runners
Specialist teacher: Margarida Olivier
Dive into a week of creative exploration inspired by the wonders of the ocean. This dynamic, hands-on workshop introduces young artists to high-quality art processes including drawing, painting, printmaking, and textile techniques.
Children will experiment with cyanotype printing using real seaweed, create textured gelli prints, explore ocean-inspired painting, develop observational drawing skills, and stitch into their own artwork. Alongside creative practice, the workshop explores ocean conservation, encouraging children to appreciate marine life, reflect on protecting our seas, and use art to express care for the natural world.
Through playful experimentation and thoughtful guidance, participants will build confidence, creativity, and artistic skills while discovering the beauty and importance of our oceans.

The camp introduces children to art traditions from different cultures through hands-on creative activities. Each day focuses on a different country or region, combining cultural discussion, visual examples, and practical artmaking.
Day 1: Aboriginal Art, Australia – Children explore dot painting, symbols, storytelling, land, and community, with an emphasis on respectful inspiration rather than copying sacred designs. They create dot paintings using cotton buds, fingertips, and earth-toned paints.
Day 2: African Art – Children study African masks from different regions, looking at shape, pattern, colour, symbolism, and materials. They create 3D African-inspired masks using cardboard, paint, pastels, collage materials, raffia, wool, and beads.
Day 3: Chinese Art – Children explore ink painting and calligraphy, focusing on brush marks, landscapes, bamboo, animals, movement, and simplicity. They create ink-style paintings with black paint and brushes, adding a red seal stamp.
Day 4: Indian Art – Children learn about Rangoli designs, especially their use in festivals such as Diwali. They explore symmetry, repetition, geometry, colour, and temporary art, then create Rangoli-style designs on paper, rocks, or potentially in sand. Skills include patternmaking, colour theory, and collaboration.
Day 5: Mexican Art – Children explore Mexican folk art and Día de los Muertos, looking at sugar skulls, papel picado, bright colours, flowers, patterns, and symbols. They discuss celebrating life and remembering loved ones sensitively, then create decorated skull artwork using drawing or 3D card skulls, with a focus on personal meaning and joyful expression.
End of Week Idea: The week finishes with an “Art Around the World” exhibition, displaying work by country. Children can write labels for their artwork and parents/carers can be invited to a mini gallery walk.
