Fostering essential life skills
Purpose
The PE curriculum is designed to develop the foundation for lifelong participation in physical activity. The curriculum aims to develop physically competent and confident students who enjoy being active and who understand the importance of health and fitness. PE fosters essential life skills such as teamwork, leadership, communication, resilience, whilst also introducing key knowledge about the human body, the principles of training, and the benefits of regular physical activity. It aims to equip students with the technical and tactical understanding and motivation needed for success in KS4 PE and beyond.

This includes team sports (rugby, hockey, football, netball, cricket, rounders) and individual activities including, badminton, swimming, dance, gymnastics, and health related fitness.
The sports covered in Year 8 are; Badminton, Cricket, Games for Understanding, Hockey, Football, Netball, Rounders, Tennis, Touch Rugby, Athletics, Health Related Exercise, Dance, Gymnastics, Swimming and Climbing.
Beyond the classroom
Students in Year 7-9 will experience the opportunity to self and peer assess, using their iPads to track their learning and attainment.
Students can opt to take part in our extracurricular programme, attending lunchtime or after school clubs. The details for the extracurricular PE clubs are listed on various tutor notices, social media platforms and via SOCS.
Students are also given the opportunity to improve their performance by involvement in extracurricular activities. JCG competes against other schools locally and nationally in rounders, hockey, netball, cricket, football and athletics. Through these leagues students can access Island trials and teams. We also try to direct students into community clubs so they can develop long term participation and hopefully give something back to community through sport.
