Fostering creativity
Purpose
The study of Art and Design fosters creativity, technical mastery, and critical thinking. It encourages students to express themselves, explore cultural and historical contexts, and develop essential skills such as observation, experimentation, and problem-solving. Art nurtures confidence, independence, and a deeper understanding of the world and its visual language.
Year 9 prepares students for GCSE by refining technical skills and fostering independent creativity. Students study Art Nouveau creating personal storytelling and hone observational techniques through detailed drawing of everyday objects, promoting ownership of the creative process.
Content
In Year 9, students will develop skills in a range of areas including painting and drawing. In the Autumn Term, students will explore creating their own Art Nouveau illustrations of inspiring female figures. In the Spring Term students will explore technical drawing techniques focusing on everyday objects as a theme.
Beyond the classroom
All students in KS3 have the opportunity to submit their work for our House Art competition and students have opportunities to enter work for the Eisteddfod.
