Jersey College for Girls (JCG) supports young athletes to achieve their potential in sport and academia. We recognise the importance for young athletes to find the balance in managing their time appropriately and maintaining an academic focus whilst providing opportunities for them to enhance their sporting aspirations.
We are officially accredited as a Talented Athlete Scholarship Scheme (TASS) Dual Career Centre, a recognition of our ongoing dedication and success in nurturing both the academic and athletic potential of our students. This prestigious accreditation places us among an elite group of institutions that provide tailored support for talented young athletes striving to excel in both their education and sport.
Some of the students currently on the TASS scheme with Miss Howell, JCG's Director of Sport and TASS Dual Career Coordinator (DCC).
The programme, backed by Sport England, supports young sportspeople on the talent pathway to have the opportunity to gain qualifications alongside their sporting pursuits, follow other interests, as well as further their personal development.
As a Dual Career Accredited school site, JCG will be an important extension of the network of universities that already partner with TASS, delivering core support services - including nutrition, lifestyle support and Psychology - to more than 600 student-athletes each year. We will offer a framework that allows students to thrive into their academic studies while training and competing at the highest levels of sport. Our unique approach includes mentoring, and individualised guidance to ensure student-athletes can successfully balance the demands of their sports and academic studies.
Meanwhile for JCG, the recognition of becoming a TASS Dual Career Accredited Site is expected to be beneficial by attracting a greater number of talented athletes and building connections with other local sporting institutions.
Student-athletes will gain knowledge from specific workshops including but not exclusive to nutrition, growth mindset, sport psychology, athlete wellbeing, time management and anti-doping. This will encourage athletes to learn and develop competencies and life skills needed to pursue a Dual Career at an earlier age.
We would love our student-athletes to achieve their potential in sport and academia to encourage each individual to develop their confidence, resilience and organisational skills. It would enable student-athletes to find the balance in managing their time appropriately.
A JCG, we are proud to support the next generation of sporting talent, equipping them with the skills, resilience, and education needed to achieve greatness in both their chosen sport and future career paths.
If you are 16+ and playing sport at a high level e.g. Regional or National and interested in getting the support you need to excel both in your sport and studies, please contact Katie Howell, the TASS Dual Career Coordinator (DCC): k.howell@jcg.sch.je
