Entry requirements

To join us here at JCG you will need: 

  • To possess an enjoyment for learning 

  • A positive attitude and commitment towards your studies 

  • 5 GCSE subjects at grade 6 or higher with a least a grade 5 in English and Maths 

  • To meet the entrance requirements of the individual subjects you wish to study

The entry requirements of individual subjects are listed below. At the end of Year 12, you will need a minimum of grade D in the end of year exams to continue each individual subject into Year 13. You will need to gain a grade D or above in the end of year exams in at least two subjects to continue into Year 13.

Biology Grade 7 in GCSE Biology or 8 8 in Combined Science
Chemistry  Grade 7 in GCSE Chemistry or 8 8 in Combined Science
Classical civilisation English Literature grade 6
Computer Science Computer Science grade 6. Students without Computer Science GCSE: Maths grade 7
Design Technology Design Technology grade 6. Students without DT GCSE: an interview to demonstrate competence and commitment
Drama and Theatre Drama grade 6 (if taken at GCSE), English grade 6
English Literature English Language grade 6, English literature grade 6
Economics Maths grade 6
French French grade 6
Geography Geography grade 6
History History grade 6
Italian Italian grade 6
Maths Maths grade 7
Further Maths Maths grade 7 and you must study Maths A level
Media Studies English Language grade 6, English literature grade 6
Music A minimum of Grade 6 in GCSE Music. For A Level, students are expected to have achieved ABRSM Grade 5 (or its equivalent) in practical music. Grade 5 Theory is also highly recommended.
Physics Grade 7 in GCSE Physics or 8 8 in Combined Science. Should be studied alongside A level Mathematics.
Government and Politics English Literature grade 6
Psychology Maths grade 6, English Literature grade 6
Religious Studies English grade 6
Spanish Spanish grade 6
Sport and PE PE grade 6, Biology (or Additional Science) grade 6
Textiles Art or Textiles grade 5, or recent portfolio to demonstrate interest
