Exciting discoveries

Purpose

Year 7 Biology nurtures curiosity, creativity, and critical thinking as students explore the foundations of life. Hands-on activities, such as using microscopes and constructing edible cell models, develop problem-solving skills and attention to detail. Investigating body systems and reproduction fosters respect for living organisms and a deeper appreciation of the natural world. Through discussions and experiments, students build confidence in scientific inquiry, learning to question, analyse, and draw conclusions; skills that support both academic success and everyday decision-making.

Content

In Year 7 Biology, students embark on an exciting journey to uncover the building blocks of life! In our Cells topic, they’ll use microscopes to explore tiny worlds, learning about the different components of both animal and plant cells and how their structures relate to their functions. Moving on to Body Systems, students will unravel how tissues and organs work together, investigate the marvel of the skeleton, explore how the lungs enable gas exchange, and discover how the digestive system breaks down food—with a deep dive into enzymes! Finally, in Reproduction, they’ll explore the fascinating processes of human and plant life cycles. With hands-on experiments and interactive learning, Biology in Year 7 brings science to life!

Beyond the classroom

In Year 7, opportunities for Year 7 include experiments, creative construction of edible pancake cell models to learn cell organelles, Science Fun Club.
