Nurturing a love for language learning
Purpose
The French curriculum for Years 7, 8, and 9 builds on students' knowledge of the French language and culture. Year 7 French revisits themes that some students have seen at primary school, and introduces it to others. It focuses on developing communication skills such as listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Through dynamic lessons, students acquire vocabulary and consolidate grammatical concepts. The curriculum fosters cultural awareness by exposing students to Francophone traditions and stories, while also highlighting Jersey's French-speaking heritage. This approach nurtures a love for language learning and prepares students for GCSEs, equipping them with the skills and confidence needed for more advanced French studies in the age of global communication.
Content
In Year, 7 all students study French and will continue to do so to GCSE level.
The emphasis in Year 7 is on learning and recapping some of the basics. Students learn how to:
use numbers, the alphabet, and classroom instructions
introduce and talk about themselves and other people
talk about family and pets
talk about the weather
talk about free time activities and daily routine
describe the places in the town
As they learn the language, students will also build some knowledge of relevant French culture and also about Tahiti through our Tahiti project.
