Buongiorno!
Purpose
The Year 8 and 9 Italian beginners' curriculum is designed to introduce students to the fundamentals of the Italian language and culture. It emphasises the development of key communication skills such as listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Through engaging activities, students acquire basic vocabulary and grasp essential grammar concepts. The curriculum also enhances cultural awareness by exposing students to the traditions of Italian-speaking communities. We encourage a passion for language learning and lessons prepare students for more advanced Italian studies, giving them the confidence to communicate in the age of globalisation.
Content
In Year 9, Italian students build on the basics that they have learned in Year 8. They learn how to:
order food and drink in a restaurant and shops
talk about free time in the past tense
express themselves at the doctor’s
talk about going on holiday
talk about the festival of Carnevale
During Year 9, students select whether to continue with Italian to GCSE. We are pleased that students enjoy their lessons and carry on. Those that do not select Italian still enjoy developing their knowledge of the language.
Beyond the classroom
Opportunities include House Languages Competition and Jersey Eisteddfod.
