At JCG, we’re excited to offer our students the opportunity to complete an Extended Project Qualification (EPQ). The EPQ is a fantastic way for students in Years 12 and 13 to develop independent research skills, explore a topic they’re passionate about, and gain a valuable qualification that will stand out to universities and future employers.
Why Choose an EPQ?
The EPQ allows students to take charge of their learning by exploring a subject they find interesting. It could be something related to their A-level subjects or an entirely new topic that sparks their curiosity. Whether they want to dive into a scientific experiment, explore a historical event, write a detailed essay, or even create an artefact, the EPQ gives them the freedom to learn in their own way.Not only does it allow for creativity, but it also strengthens key academic skills. Researching, critical thinking, time management, and presentation skills are all honed during the EPQ process. These are highly sought-after abilities, whether applying for university or entering the workforce.
University Applications
Many universities, including top institutions, value the EPQ as it demonstrates a student's ability to work independently and think critically. In fact, some universities may lower their offer conditions for students who achieve A* or A grades in their EPQ.
Support Throughout the Journey
At JCG, we offer full support to our EPQ students through experienced supervisors who guide them from the initial planning stages to the final presentation. Students will have the opportunity to take part in workshops on research methods, time management, and academic writing; as well as working independently to complete their project.
