JCG Team win regional finals of law competitionA team of JCG Sixth Formers will now go to the finals of a national law competition at Wood Green Crown Court in London in April. The team, sponsored by Carey Olsen, was victorious in the regional heat in Southampton on Saturday 1st February. The Independent Schools Mock Trial Competition, a SmartLaw programme established by Young Citizens, is a unique opportunity for students aged 15-18 from all over the UK to gain unparalleled insight into the justice system. The competition immerses students in all aspects of a criminal trial, as they take on the roles of barristers, witnesses, clerks, ushers and jury members. Students appear in front of real judges and are assisted in their preparations by professional barristers.Mr Stuart Langhorn, Head of Religious Studies and Philosophy at JCG, who helped to prepare the students and accompanied them to Southampton, commented:‘We are immensely proud of the students who took part in the competition on Saturday. They were dedicated in their preparation and they were receptive to advice and truly deserve their place in the national finals.’Year 12 students Katie and Izzy commented:‘It was an amazing experience which provided a wonderful insight into life as a lawyer. We can’t wait to represent JCG in the national final. Thank you so much to Carey Olsen for enabling us to take part.’
