Dear Parents and Students, Update as of 12.32 on Thursday 4 June 2020 I hope you and your loved ones are well. I have been looking forward to this day since 20 March, the day I will be able set out how our students and staff can return to College. I pray that the Covid 19 numbers remain very low and that we will be able to welcome back all our students before the end of term. This morning I was struck by the emotions around returning to JCG. I was zooming some students and when I confirmed that they would be in next week, tears welled in their eyes. These were tears of relief and happiness such was their desire to return to what they told me was their second home. I also know that some will be feeling anxious too. This is why we will be prioritising the wellbeing of our staff and students as well as the learning. Having space to articulate what has happened and how one is feeling is essential. Our whole planning has been focused on providing a safe, happy, relaxed and welcoming environment for all. Please do take time to carefully read the attached guidance with your daughter. We have endeavoured to make it as comprehensive as possible. However, if, having read it, you have any questions or concerns please do let us know. So, what do we know?
- Monday 8 June will be an orientation day for staff
- Year 10 return at 8.30am on Tuesday 9 June - Friday 12 June. Following an orientation session, students will have taught face to face lessons in as many subjects as we can manage. For those subjects we cannot manage, online provision will be provided as normal.
- Students will be sent their timetables today. Again, please go through these with your daughter as her timetable will be different to the one she was used to. She will be able to see what she has and when.
- Each day will conclude with optional wellbeing check-ins should students and staff wish to simply talk about how they are feeling as they reflect on their experience.
- Year 12 return at 8.30am on Monday 15 June. Lessons will run as follows:
- Monday: orientation plus double lessons of Block B & D
- Tuesday: orientation plus double lesson of Block A & C
- Weds: Deep clean for the College. Students will work from Home. We will run a live Zoom on the UCAS process. Also, any student required to resit an end of year exam will do so remotely on this day. Mrs Spiteri will provide students with any appropriate information next week.
- Thursday: Double lesson of Block B & D
- Friday: Double lesson of Block A & C
- Each day will conclude an optional wellbeing check-in
- We will confirm the arrangements next week for students who access A level courses at either VCJ or Beaulieu
- Elevate are running a webinar next Tuesday 9thJune, where they are going to focus on essential study skills students need to become independent learners.

I think it must have shrunk in the wardrobe over the past 12 weeks. Even so, it was a strangely reminiscent moment of something that used to be familiar. Somehow what used to be a daily task became something much more positive, reassuring and hopeful. I hope as our staff and students prepare to return, they too feel the same. Take care.
