Wednesday 24th June Update - Senior Student Leadership Team, Timetables and Mrs Barker

Dear Parents and Students,   Update as of 15.18 on Wednesday 24 June 2020 I hope you and your loved ones are well.  This week has been very special.  We have welcomed back all our year groups for face to face teaching.  The girls have been brilliant in returning to a College they know but is somehow different in how to navigate it.  And this afternoon it was truly wonderful to see our Year 13 back in College, actually on College Field, for the handover of the Student Leadership team from Year 13 to Year 12, an event that should have taken place the day before Easter.  I'm so pleased we decided to wait until we could be together rather than announce the team online. It was lovely being together (at 1m) and to thank them for their remarkable service to their College.  It is events like today that are the little steps for them in letting go of somewhere they know and love.  It's also little steps for us too in letting them go.  The only year group we have yet to see is Year 11 and we look forward to seeing them at their Sixth Form induction on 8 July.   What do we know?

  • Publication of Timetables from Monday 29 June to the end of term:  We have tried to maximize the number of students, staff and lessons we can have and still remain firmly within the Government guidelines.  I am grateful for the genius that is Ruth Lea who has not only rewritten the timetable on a weekly basis but has achieved the remarkable, as shown below.  Please do carefully note when your daughter is due in and what time her day ends.  Students will be sent their timetables directly as per this week.

  • Mrs Barker will be leaving JCG at the end of this term as she has accepted a role at Hautlieu.  Mrs Barker has been at JCG for the past 5 years, is a remarkable teacher of Mathematics and a tremendous colleague.  We will miss her and thank her for her fantastic contribution to College life.
  • End of Year Reports: We are busy working on reports and, as you may remember from my note in a parent update some weeks ago, due to the Coronavirus lockdown, they will be slightly different for Years 7-10.  The report will give key information and a snapshot of progress rather than a full text report and, as always, you are welcome to contact teachers should you have any queries.
  • Congratulations to Kate, Year 12, who entered the Newnham College, University of Cambridge, Maths Essay competition and came second from across all entries.

And finally, our new Student Leadership Team has been announced and is attached for your information.  My congratulations to the students.  As shown so keenly during the past three months, it is the contribution each of us can make that is the glue that builds communities.  I so look forward to seeing how this new team, and all Year 13, shape and nurture our College community for that will be their legacy.   [pdf-embedder url="https://jerseycollegeforgirls.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/LEADERSHIP-TEAM-2020-21.pdf" title="LEADERSHIP TEAM 2020-21"]   Take care,   Carl Howarth Principal
