JCG provides an 'Outstanding' education

General

JCG is the first school to be independently reviewed under the Jersey Schools Review Framework, commissioned by the Department of Children, Young People, Education and Skills.A team of eight independent reviewers spent three days at the College reviewing over 100 lessons and meeting with many staff and students to examine the level of achievement, learning, behaviour and wellbeing and leadership.  The reviewers judged JCG to be 'Outstanding' in every category. The report, the first to be published by the Government on the quality of education in schools, can be read in full at: JSRF Report of Jersey College for Girls The reviewers commented that JCG was 'a great place to learn' and that it provides 'brilliantly for the needs and aspirations of its students'.  Student behaviour and their attitudes to learning was found to be 'exceptionally positive' and 'at virtually all times, impeccable'.  The reviewers noted that the students were ' highly mature and sensitive to others, polite, kind, positive, caring and confident without being over-confident'.  JCG was, they said, 'a happy and high performing school'.Teaching was judged to be consistently of a high standard so much so that 'in the course of any day each student takes part in an exciting sequence of terrific lessons'.  The reviewers were impressed by the 'vast range' of extracurricular activities on offer allowing the students to 'develop skills, confidence and character'.  The students 'love them' and 'participation rates are very high' commented the reviewers.

Attendance was judged to be consistently very high.  The reviewers stated that 'this is not surprising given how much students love their school and want to succeed'.  The report also stated that 'Students feel very safe and very well looked after'.

Senior leadership was judged to be 'highly effective' and that the school was led with a 'clear vision'.  The reviewers found JCG to possess a 'very strong sense of community' encompassed in one of the College's four main values of Belong.  'Leaders, staff and students all contribute to this aim', the report stated.  'Everyone is part of a shared endeavour.'

Karen Rankine, Chair of Governors, commented, 'This report is a fitting and deserving accolade for the tremendous commitment and effort of all the staff, students and parents to provide the very best education for our young people.  The Governors are delighted that under highly skilled and deeply caring leadership JCG continues to flourish.  This report provides assurance to parents and the wider community that JCG is an exceptional community where our students can learn and thrive as happy, confident and impressive young women.'
