JCG welcomes British and Irish Lions Player, Maro Itoje

General | Sports

Thank you to the marvellous, the talented and extremely hard working Maro Itoje for speaking with us and Victoria College, Jersey as part of the The British and Irish lions Jersey School tour.

"If I didn't play rugby, I think I'd be Prime Minister. I think I'd be good at that."

We are currently celebrating #Pride this week and when asked about promoting minorities within sport, Maro answered, "Diversity is a great thing. I don't think anyone loses with diversity. You get a wider range of opinions and discussion. You perhaps get challenged in different ways. You'd have an even bigger player pool to pick from. There is no loser with diversity."

Maro was asked what player of all time he wished was on the Lions tour with him:

"Johnny Wilkinson. Growing up he was one of the stars of rugby. I would have the pleasure and honour of playing with him."

The best thing about being a Lion?

"The honour. Working with people you're used to analysing - you're used to a quite intense competition with them and then you become their friends and their teammates. That's a very special thing."
