The Map of Wonders

General

If you haven’t yet discovered ‘The Map of Wonders’, this week is your last chance. The exhibition was developed by our very own Jacque Rutter, Head of the Creative and Performance Art Faculty in partnership with ArtHouse Jersey, Genesis Education, Jersey and Children,Young People, Education & Skills (CYPES).

In the first year of the three-year project, seven films were produced along with teacher packs enabling 4,000 young people to connect to their island heritage through art. Approximately 7,000 pupils took in The Map of Wonders and the exhibition, which Ms Rutter curated, celebrating their creativity and showcase their talent.

The exhibition takes visitors on a physical and interactive journey around our island's folklore. Following routes on the Map of Wonders, people discover a sailing ship with colourful woven nets and a sinking golden chair, encounter a bull with a school of colourful fish and enter an observatory to explore paintings of galaxies. There is also a treasure map to search for clues hidden in the stories, a metal detector to search for treasure, and a making table where visitors can create their own fantastical beast headdresses!

All the stories associated with the project and exhibition have been written by John Henry Falle AKA The Story Beast and can be read aloud as one journeys around the display.

The exhibition is open until Sunday 2 October at ArtHouse Jersey at Capital House, 8 Church Street.
