Vigil for Peace
The vigil was organized after Holly (Y 11) contacted our Principal Carl Howarth following the recent events in Ukraine.During the vigil, Tamsin (Y 13) read the poem 'Home' by Somali-British writer and poet Warsan Shire.
The Chamber Choir performed ‘Esti Dal’, a prayer for peace composed at the start of the Second World War by Hungarian Composer Zoltán Kodály.
It translates to: “Evening darkness overtook me near the woods, I place my coat under my head as a pillow, I put my hands together to pray to the Lord like this: Oh my Lord, give me a place to sleep, I am weary of wandering, with my journey here, with leaving away from my home, may the Lord give me a good night, may he send me a holy angel, may he grant my heart’s dreams, may he give me a good night.”
The college then held a two-minute silence and the vigil concluded with Holly reading the poem ‘War and Peace’ by Sri Chinmoy.
