De Putron Challenge

11th November 2013

This annual event was held on Monday 11th November at the Hotel de France. As usual, JCG entered both a Year 8 and Year 13 team into this exciting University Challenge style event.

The Year 8 De Putron Challenge team from JCG were a little nervous to begin with but once they moved into their stride the team’s confidence grew and their fingers raced to the buzzers, beating off the opposition. Some rather difficult questions were answered with poise, and the team fought well, but were ultimately beaten by a stronger team from De La Salle who went on to win in the final. Many thanks to Rebecca Cushing, Jessica Watling, Julia Callander and Rhiannon Baker (reserve) for their valiant effort.

The evening saw the opportunity for JCG, as reigning sixth form Jersey champions, to show their skills in general knowledge. Lead by team captain and Head Girl Jenny Russ the team made a good start, displaying a wide range of knowledge in local history, science, the environment, sport, media in addition to mental aptitude. The girls did JCG proud gaining second place overall and winning £600 for the school. A huge well done to the team – Jenny Russ, Ella Huelin, Charlotte Smith and Charlotte Spencer. Congratulations to Hautlieu school on their success. De Putron Challenge

Thank you to Miss Rollo and Miss Hopkins for supporting the two teams. It was lovely to see so much support from students, parents and friends of JCG at the event and we look forward to participating in the 2014 competition.
