JCG Summer Concert

JCG’s summer concert on 4 May showcased and celebrated its students’ wealth of musical talent.
It offered the audience an eclectic programme which including the premiere performance by Saxtet of Year 12 music student Ellysia Spears’ composition Super Mario Variations. Invited guests including Sir John and Lady McColl enjoyed performances by the Junior and Senior String Ensembles and Concert Bands, JCGlee, Chamber Choir and Guitar Club, as well as highlights from last term’s House Music competition. The Chamber Choir’s antiphonal performance of Bojesen’s Eternity surrounded the audience with waves of sound and JCGlee’s lively and infectious performance of Taylor Swift’s Shake it Off had everyone joining in and clapping along. The Senior Strings’ programme included Basse-Dance from Warlock’s Capriol Suite and the Junior Strings, a novelty piece, Remote Control. Year 13 students Emily de Gruchy and Rachel Hayden conducted the Junior Concert Band and JCGlee respectively. The final piece, directed by David Lawrence featured the combined forces of the Senior Concert Band and both choirs in a rousing performance of Pastime with Good Company. The retiring collection of over £500 for Mind Jersey reflected the enjoyment and generosity of the audience.
