MOOCs – Massive Open Online Courses

Calling all Year 11 and 13 students. Do you want to learn something new?

Then try a free self-paced MOOC by visiting https://www.mooc.org

There are over 2,900 free courses on a huge variety of different topics.

Learn together, select a subject that 2 or 3 of you are interested in.  Create a study group, and FaceTime to share your learning. Alternatively, create a study group where you all study something different and schedule a time to share online.

Self-paced courses offer the greatest flexibility and are free (you do not need to sign up for a certificate).

Why not learn a new language, eg. Mandarin or learn about Art History, Egyptian Pyramids, European painters: Leonardo, Rembrandt and Goya – there is much to choose from.

Most courses take 6-8 weeks based on 2-3 hours learning per week. Just think how much new knowledge and learning you could secure in 2-3 hours a day!

In Our Time – BBC Radio 4 Podcasts

An amazing variety of rich and brilliant expert coverage of Science, History, Culture etc.

To listen visit https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b006qykl/episodes/guide

Challenge yourself to listen to something different every day. Write a blog to review your listening.

I will setup MOOCs and In Our Time as a flexible task on ShowMyHomework, where you can give feedback on the courses and/or podcasts you have listened to.

Finally, it would be lovely if you could create a short video sharing what you have learnt for JCGTV .
