17th May 2012
On Monday 14th May, JCG sent a team of top spellers to compete in South-West semi-finals of the Times Spelling Bee in Southampton. The national championship attracts teams from around the country to compete against their peers in an exciting and entertaining trial of their spelling abilities, and our team beat off competition from over 1,200 other schools in order to make it to the penultimate round.
Our girls showed fantastic effort and tackled some challenging words – such as truculent, palisade and corroboration – however this was not enough to see them through to final this year. Once again, the whole competition was exciting, tense and thrilling throughout and the team have certainly learned some spellings that they will find hard to forget!
