Outdoor Education Programme
At JCG, we are committed to fostering well-rounded, resilient individuals. Our Outdoor Education programme, launched in September 2023, provides Year 7 students with opportunities to develop essential life skills while enhancing their academic performance.
Bridging the Gap: Primary to Secondary School Transition
As students move from primary to secondary school, outdoor activities often decrease. To support this transition, we introduced our Outdoor Education programme, addressing the need for outdoor learning and personal development beyond traditional classroom settings.
The Benefits of Outdoor Education
Outdoor Education enhances students’ academic and personal growth, supporting key skills such as:
- Problem-Solving: Tackling real-world challenges and developing critical thinking.
- Team-Building: Strengthening communication, collaboration, and leadership.
- Resilience: Overcoming challenges and building perseverance.
- Mental Health: Reducing stress and improving overall well-being.
These experiences are designed to complement academic learning and equip students for success both inside and outside the classroom.
Our Outdoor Education Programme
Every Friday afternoon, Year 7 students participate in a variety of activities that promote personal growth, teamwork, and environmental awareness. The programme incorporates the following themes across the year:
- Teamwork: Collaborative activities that build trust and communication.
- Outdoor Art: Creative projects inspired by nature and the environment.
- Ecosystems & Biodiversity: Exploring local wildlife and creating sustainable environments.
- Outdoor Safety & First Aid: Learning essential skills for safety in the outdoors.
- Sustainable Living: Practical activities that teach sustainability and environmental responsibility.
- Mindfulness: Practices to enhance focus, well-being, and stress management.
- Bushcraft: Developing survival skills, including shelter-building and navigation.
These activities provide students with a range of skills that foster resilience, confidence, and a love for the outdoors.
Off-Site Adventure Days
In addition to on-campus experiences, Year 7 students will also engage in off-site adventure activities such as kayaking, which promote teamwork, environmental awareness, and personal growth.
A Holistic Approach to Education
At JCG, our Outdoor Education programme is a key part of our holistic approach, helping students grow academically and personally. By connecting classroom learning with real-world experiences, we prepare students to excel in all areas of life.
