  • Cardboard Boat Race 2019

The Channel Islands Group of Professional Engineers organised an event called the “Cardboard Boat Race 2019”. JCG entered two teams, the “Seagulls” and the “Heebie Jeebies”. Following a brief design session, students were given recycled cardboard boxes and lots of Gaffa tape. The professional engineers assisted with ideas, hints and suggestions throughout the build.  Lunch allowed the varnish to seal and dry so the boat races could commence! Entries were judged on distance travelled and design. Two members of the “Seagulls” team climbed into their dinghy and navigated half way along the course before the ingress of water hampered their efforts. Despite this, it was the quality of their build, including a traditional transom and gunwales, which won them the prize of “Best Design” for the day. Winning students received a £20 voucher to spend at the Power House.

  • Inter School Rounders Tournament

Over our 4 inter schools rounders tournaments this week, we saw some outstanding play and sportsmanship. Some age groups were very challenging and the students had to step up their tactics with very close matches. The Year 8s and 9s played superbly, winning all their games. Year 10 lost one match by a rounder so came 2nd, and Year 7 were 3rd. Well done to all those who represented the school.
